Founded in the 1950's, Beth Shalom was a focal point for the Sheepshead Bay community, especially for young families started by returning veterans of WWII. At its founding, Beth Shalom was progressive as it was one of the few major Conservative synagogues in Brooklyn. The service has always been traditional in style and is conducted in Hebrew with a few selected readings in English. Due to the changing demographics of the Sheepshead Bay area, the synagogue took the necessary step of installing a Mechitza, (partition) and now the services are held with men and women sitting seperately in the Orthodox tradition. We recently switched to the Artscroll siddur and Chumash to enhance our service with this user-friendly prayer book. We also have Artscroll Russian language siddurim. We invite you to join us for our lively davening and we promise to make you feel welcome...Join us!
